Biography
Collaboration lies at the centre of April’s practice. She is particularly interested in how interpretation develops through shared musical decisions, sustained engagement with repertoire and long-term partnerships with other musicians.
April formed Duo Jiayi–April with violinist Jiayi Chen in Shanghai in 2019, and the partnership has continued in Vienna. In 2026, the duo received First Prize at the International Stasys Vainiūnas Chamber Ensembles Competition and Second Prize at the Ilmari Hannikainen Piano Chamber Music Competition.
After studying with Prof. Jingsong Xian at the Middle School Affiliated to Xinghai Conservatory of Music, April completed her piano performance studies at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music under Prof. Zhe Tang. Having completed her master’s degree in chamber music, she is now pursuing postgraduate chamber music studies at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna (mdw), studying with Prof. Avedis Kouyoumdjian and Prof. Johannes Meissl.
Since 2025, April has also been developing a Chinese-language media practice focused on classical music and the working life of a musician, alongside an emerging interest in literature and cultural storytelling. Beginning in the second half of 2026, this work is gradually expanding towards English-language content and international platforms.
